Dr. Moran absolutely loves performing gum lifts for patients as doing a gum lift can drastically improve a patient’s smile, and ultimately, improve their confidence and their lives.
Showing some gum when smiling is normal and makes your smile youthful. However, some patients show an excessive amount of gum when they smile and can overpower the teeth and cause a “gummy smile”. Depending on the case and the cause of a gummy smile, many gummy smiles can be fixed with a procedure called crown lengthening, or a “gum lift”.
A gum lift is a very minimally invasive procedure. In this procedure, Dr. Moran uses a laser to reshape the gum to the ideal esthetic position. Another instrument is then used to carve the bone around the tooth to ensure the gum doesn’t grow back.
